Her Genesis

Doing More with Less

Read Time 10 minutes, Word Count 1305

Okay y’all… here’s my car line revelation 😇

So yesterday, I was waiting in the car line to pick up my daughter from school. I was thinking about my life and my hopes for the future.

If you didn’t know, I’m turning 40 really soon! 🥳

According to life expectancy statistics, I’ve reached MIDLIFE. Now of course, only God knows, but just stick with me.

I gotta be honest. I’m not exactly where I want to be in life or where I thought I would be.

And that’s okay because God has been and IS good. to. me!

But I’m sitting in the car line and I’m thinking, “I need a midlife reset. I need to recreate myself and become a better version of myself”

Y’all know how it goes…our culture is always coming up with something “new”--- I’m in my soft girl era, how to glow up, how to be an “It Girl”…blah, blah, blah.

Immediately, the phrase “factory reset” came to mind. So, you know what I did…

I googled it of course, duh 😁

This is what I found and it really blessed me, which is why I’m sharing it with you.

A factory reset, also known as hard reset or master reset, is a software restore of an electronic device to its original system state by erasing all data, settings, and applications that were previously stored on the device. This is often done to fix an issue with a device, but it could also be done to restore the device to its original settings.

Since a factory reset entails deleting all information stored in the device, it is essentially the same concept as reformatting a hard drive. Pre-installed applications and data on the card's storage card (such as a microSD card) will not be erased.

Factory resets can fix many chronic performance issues (i.e. freezing), but it does not remove the device's operating system. Factory resets can also be used to prepare a device for sale, refurbishment, disposal, recycling, donation or other transfers of ownership by removing personal data and settings associated with the previous owner.

Just so you know, when God is teaching me something, He does so through storytelling and metaphors, just like He taught in parables in the Bible.

If you’ve ever heard me teach anything, you know I like to break things down bit by bit, so let’s go. Stay with me because I’m gonna run this metaphor in the ground 😁

“A factory reset, also known as hard reset or master reset, is a software restore of an electronic device to its original system state by erasing all data, settings, and applications that were previously stored on the device.

The process of a factory reset or a “master” reset (come on King Jesus ) is a process of RESTORATION to the ORIGINAL state accomplished by ERASING things that were previously stored.

The problem we have when we try to reset our own lives is:

First, it’s not our job to reset our lives. Our job is to submit ourselves to our Lord and Savior, and allow Him to do the reset.

Sometimes in our attempts to “clean up” our lives, we pick and choose what we will get rid of and what we’ll keep, without considering God first.

I believe God is saying, let Me do the reset because only I know what the original settings were. God knows are beginning and our end. Therefore, He is qualified to handle our middle.

Secondly, we are trying to add more to our lives, when God is trying to purge us. Our restoration comes through subtraction, not addition.

The addition is what got us in trouble to begin with. As we live life the best way we know how, we take on new attitudes, mindsets, and habits. We accept a new identity and we start “downloading” the culture and replacing Jesus with the world. We allow people in our lives that we’re not hardwired for, we go places where we don’t have service and we can’t get reception from our service provider….

And we wonder why our lives are glitchy. It’s because we’ve added too much and our memory is full. We are at capacity and we cannot function as we were designed to function until we allow God to purge us.

“Since a factory reset entails deleting all information stored in the device, it is essentially the same concept as reformatting a hard drive. Pre-installed applications and data on the card's storage card (such as a microSD card) will not be erased.”

Everything that was meant to stay, will remain. The pre-installed applications that God placed in you will remain fully functional.

What God said about you still stands. What He called you to do still stands. Who He said you are still stands. Your identity in Christ will not change.

It doesn’t matter who’s talking about you, the lies, or the rumors. Maybe some of the gossip is true. We’ve all made mistakes and missed the mark, but God’s word still stands and you are who He says you are.

“Factory resets can also be used to prepare a device for sale, refurbishment, disposal, recycling, donation or other transfers of ownership by removing personal data and settings associated with the previous owner.”

Now this is the part where I wanted to take a lap. My soul got happy y’all…

A factory reset can be done to prepare for a TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP by removing the STUFF associated with the PREVIOUS OWNER!!!

Y’all better get. this. message!  Go back and read that again….

God is restoring you to your original condition, that was made and determined by God himself, in spite of all the stuff and the mess that the world has downloaded on your hard drive.

God is delivering us from all of the pain and remnants of:

  • Fear

  • Low self-esteem

  • Disease

  • Disability

  • Grief

  • Poverty

  • Brokenness

  • Jealousy

  • Failed marriages

  • Miscarriages

  • Disappointment

  • Frustration

  • Bitterness

  • Confusion

  • Rebellion

And He’s bringing us back to Him, closer to Him, and deeper with Him. The world can have their stuff back! We are being prepared for a transfer of ownership. When He comes to find us, we should look like what He created, not the life we lived.

Save yourself the trouble of trying to “recreate” yourself. You don’t need to rewrite your story. Your story is already written and God’s version is better.

You just need to be the original creation that God designed. He created you with a purpose in mind. Just be that.

So as I continue on my journey of holistic wellness and healing…

I’ll be spending time with God to explore the genesis of me. I’m seeking to know the heart of God’s intention when He sovereignly decided that my presence on this earth was necessary.

Please understand…

Your factory reset requires submission and surrender. A factory reset doesn’t just happen. You have to take intentional steps to reset or take it to the service provider to let them do it.

Then, let us be responsible in continuing our fresh start by acknowledging God and allowing Him to order our steps.

If you made it to the end, I hope these words were a blessing to you.
