Part 3: Your new beginning is an opportunity, not a guarantee

Genesis 9:18-20 NKJV

18 Now the sons of Noah who went out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. And Ham was the father of Canaan. 19 These three were the sons of Noah, and from these the whole earth was populated. 20 And Noah began to be a farmer, and he planted a vineyard.

The water that covered the earth has now dried up and God has spoken to Noah, telling him and his family to come out of the ark. God also says that “they will spread over the earth and be fruitful and multiply on the earth”. (Gen 8:15-17)

So what does Noah do?

Noah began to farm and cultivate the ground. He planted a vineyard.

When God destroyed the earth, it presented an opportunity for a fresh start— a chance to regroup and rebuild.

When the floods of life come your way and seem to wipe away all of your progress, remember that you can start again and rebuild something better.

Will it be difficult? Probably. Will it be worth it? Absolutely!

What this means for me…

This series started with a discussion on my growing cynicism about new year resolutions. While I didn’t make a resolution this year, I am moving forward with focus and intention.

I am going into 2024 with a mindset to cultivate the seed that God has placed in me. By the grace of God, I am going to water and give light to the purpose that God has assigned me.

I don’t want to be like the servant who buried his talent (Matthew 25:14-30). I believe God is looking for a return on His investment. We were bought with a price and we were bought for a purpose.

I view every day as another opportunity to add nutrients to the soil and create an environment and atmosphere in my life that is conducive to healthy growth.

What this means for you…

Allow God to use you for His glory. When He returns, have something more to offer Him than the original seed He gave you. Do the work, cultivate the ground, and be a good steward over your life.

This is your opportunity to try again, start again, and win again— but it’s not a guarantee. Your obedience is required.

Seek God concerning your divine purpose.

In truth, we all have the same purpose. The difference lies in the method or how we fulfill the purpose.

We have all been called to fulfill the Great Commandment (Mark 12:28-34) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20). Everything we do should be founded upon those two things.

Whatever you find your unique method to be, make sure you do it to the best of your ability. Seek God for instruction and be quick to obey when He gives instruction.

  • Be a good and faithful steward.

  • Don’t bury your talent.

  • Invest in your purpose.

  • Plant, water, and watch God give the increase.

Ask Yourself:

Are my daily decisions helping or hindering my growth in God?

Am I making space for my purpose to bloom or am I choking out the seed that God placed in me?
